چکیده

We discuss alternative approaches for estimating from cross-sectional categorical data in the presence of misclassification. Two parameterisations of the misclassification model are reviewed. The first employs misclassification probabilities and leads tomoment-based inference. The second employs calibration probabilities and leads tomaximum likelihood inference. We show that maximum likelihood estimation can be alternatively performed by employing misclassification probabilities and a missing data specification. As an alternative to maximum likelihood estimation we propose a quasi-likelihood parameterisation of the misclassification model. In this context an explicit definition of the likelihood function is avoided and a different way of resolving a missing data problem is provided. Variance estimation for the alternative point estimators is considered. The different approaches are illustrated using real data from the UK Labour Force Survey and simulated data.

Evaluation of estimation methods for parameters of the probability functions in tree diameter distribution modeling

One of the most commonly used statistical models for characterizing the variations of tree diameter at breast height is Weibull distribution. The usual approach for estimating parameters of a statistical model is the maximum likelihood estimation (likelihood method). Usually, this works based on iterative algorithms such as Newton-Raphson. However, the efficiency of the likelihood method is not...

A Bayesian Nominal Regression Model with Random Effects for Analysing Tehran Labor Force Survey Data

Large survey data are often accompanied by sampling weights that reflect the inequality probabilities for selecting samples in complex sampling. Sampling weights act as an expansion factor that, by scaling the subjects, turns the sample into a representative of the community. The quasi-maximum likelihood method is one of the approaches for considering sampling weights in the frequentist framewo...

ANALYSIS OF CATEGORICAL DATA WITH MISCLASSIFICATION ERRORS by CHUN-

Errors in the collection of data are obstacles to analysis because the underlying misclassification mechanism is usually unknown. Many authors have investigated this problem. In this paper, we shall concentrate on the analysis of contingency tables which are subject to misclassification errors. A general misclassification framework for multi-dimensional contingency tables is proposed. Base on t...

Robustness-based portfolio optimization under epistemic uncertainty

In this paper, we propose formulations and algorithms for robust portfolio optimization under both aleatory uncertainty (i.e., natural variability) and epistemic uncertainty (i.e., imprecise probabilistic information) arising from interval data. Epistemic uncertainty is represented using two approaches: (1) moment bounding approach and (2) likelihood-based approach. This paper first proposes a ...

An application of Measurement error evaluation using latent class analysis

‎Latent class analysis (LCA) is a method of evaluating non sampling errors‎, ‎especially measurement error in categorical data‎. ‎Biemer (2011) introduced four latent class modeling approaches‎: ‎probability model parameterization‎, ‎log linear model‎, ‎modified path model‎, ‎and graphical model using path diagrams‎. ‎These models are interchangeable‎. ‎Latent class probability models express l...
